“Exploring the land of the Incas 18days” (2017)

 

Day1: Flight Lima – Puerto Maldonado:

You will be met at Puerto Maldonado airport by your guide. They will accompany you throughout your stay. We will take a private transfer to our office where you can leave any luggage you do not need. After a look around this typical jungle town we will drive to the port and board a boat for the 40 minute ride down the Madre de Dios river .

On arrival at tour lodge you will be greeted with a welcome cocktail then handed the keys to your bungalow. A wonderful lunch follows then some free time to get comfortable in your bungalow, or take a refreshing dip in our pool.

3:30pm: Our first activity. On this trek you will see a large variety of tropical trees, medicinal plants, insects, butterflies and other animals. We will also stop at a lookout point where you can observe toucans, macaws and other species of birds. (Duration: between 2.5 and 3 hours)

Returning to the lodge you can sit and watch the sunset over the river or have an exotic cocktail in our terrace- bar.

7pm: Before dinner we will go on a boat trip, to try and spot the white caiman (caiman crocodilus) that live on the river banks.

8pm: After a delicious dinner, we can relax and chat in the bar or even in the pool with a drink and sit and marvel at the huge Amazonian sky and at the Southern Cross.

Day 2: Exploring the jungle!!!:

At 5:30am we will trek for 20 min until we arrive at the parrot clay- lick. Here a minimum of five different species feeds on special clay, vital to their metabolism. It’s a truly marvelous, multicolored spectacle.

8am: Breakfast and free time to explore the splendid gardens of the lodge home to dozens of varieties of exotic plants and flowering trees.

10:30am: Again we will take a boat on the Madre de Dios River. This time to “Monkey Island” home to a variety of species of monkeys rescued from captivity or the illegal trade. From here a further 30 min boat ride of and we enter the Tambopata- Candamo National Reserve. We will trek 5km through the dense vegetation of the tropical rainforest, giant trees, snakes, monkeys, birds and even the illusive jaguar can sometimes be observed here

Our destination is Sandoval Lake, home to numerous species of animals, birds (in particular Hoatzins, Kingfisher, and Cormorants) and different species of monkeys (Squirrel monkeys, Howler monkeys, Capuchin monkeys). At the lake itself we can enjoy the spectacle of Giant River Otters, Black Caimans and Piranhas (sometimes we can even observe anacondas in the areas covered by reed). This is also the habitat of the giant Arapaima, a fish of more than 2,5m, weighing in at over 200kg. Traveling by canoe, the sunset over the lake is a unforgettable sight. On our return to the river we may spot some nocturnal animals.

8pm: Time for a well- earned rest after an active day, a delicious dinner and perhaps a drink and a chat in the bar or a chance to lie in our hammocks and listen to the sounds of the rainforest. We also have qualified masseurs available for those who wish.

Day 3: enjoy the jungle!!!

Breakfast and free time to dip in the pool or maybe buy some Amazon handicrafts and jewelry in our shop.

10am: We follow the river for approximately 1,5 hours in order to visit a native community. Occasionally we can see monkeys, river turtles, caimans and various birds in the dense vegetation of the riverbanks. We will also see some medicinal plants. (Sangre de Grado, Oje, Capirona)

The “Project for the Rescue of Cultural Values” supports the largest local native community “Palma Real” with approximately 200 families of the Ese’eja tribe. This project, located at Gamitada island works with families that will introduce us to their traditional culture, language, customs, clothing and dances. There is also the chance to support them by buying some of their handmade goods.

1pm: Afterwards we visit a chakra (local term for farm) where we get to see and taste a variety of tropical fruits and other local products (Cocoa, bananas, café, cocona). We will also have our lunch here, a typical Amazonian dish.

We return to the lodge and have a few hours before dinner to relax.

Day 4: flight Puerto Maldonado to Cusco.

After breakfast we say goodbye to our home for the last few days and accompanied by our guide, board the boat back to Puerto Maldonado. We will pass by our office again to collect any baggage you left. Following that we will visit the local market to show you agricultural products of the region before heading to the airport for your flight. Transfer from the airport to your selected hotel. Free time to relax and acclimatize for the altitude.

Day 5: CUSCO TO PUNO Crossing the Altiplano.

Approx 7am Transfer from your hotel in Cusco to the bus Station to travel by the Inka Express VIP / First Class service Tourist Bus to Puno. Accompanied by an English speaking guide for tours of 3 sites along the way; Andahaylillas, Rhachi and Puka Pukara with spectacular views. Buffet Lunch near Sicuani town. Arrival around 5pm Transfer to Hotel in Puno. Accommodation on a triple room, private bathroom and breakfast. Hotel Qalasaya. Short evening briefing for any last minute queries.

Day 6: ISLANDS TOUR OF LAKE TITIKACA. Uros Island and overnight on Amantani Island

Between 7.35- 8.00am Transfer from the hotel to the port and by motor boat we take you to one of the legendary Uros Islands where you can observe the lives of the Uros people who live on floating reed islands, some only 20 metres in length. After a beautiful 3hr boat ride we reach Amantani island where we will break into smaller groups to stay with the local families. You have the opportunity to trek to the top of the mountain (4150 mtrs) to see the Temples of the Pachamama and Pachatata and enjoy the traditional customs of the island people. Food and authentic music prepared and performed by your designated family. BLD

Distance Travelled: around 3 hours in boat so bring some water and snacks

 

Day 7: TAQUILE ISLAND Return to Puno overnight.

After breakfast we take a short boat ride to the neighboring Taquile island, where we will tour around the ruins and visit these beautiful people, world famous for their intricate and fascinating weavings,

After lunch we take the return trip to Puno. Arrival in the afternoon and transfer back to hotel approx 5-6 pm.

Day 8: PUNO TO CUSCO in a comfortable bus.

Bus from Cusco to Puno. Between 7.15- 7.30am transfer from your hotel to the bus for direct transport to Cusco. Arrival approx 2pm and transfer to your hotel

Day 9: Cusco city and Sacsayhuaman tour! (Shared group service)

Free time in the morning to relax and then after lunch we pick up you from your hotel around 1 pm. We will visit the following places:

QORICANCHA.-This is the site of the Inca temples of the sun, moon and lightning which was discovered under the Santo Domingo Church in the earthquake of 1952. THE CATHEDRAL

It was built in the XVI century has a baroque style, with a beautiful altar and a lot of wonderful paintings. SACSAYHUAMAN Is a masterpiece of engineering and the site of the first rebellion against the Spanish. QENQO Located near Sacsayhuaman, is thought to have been a ceremonial center of great importance in Inca religion and had a very important role at that time. PUCA PUCARA This tambo is built in a more rustic style and would have been used to rest by “chasquis” the famous Inca runners. TAMBOMACHAY Located 8 km from the city of the Cusco, this temple of the water demonstrates a high quality of Inca stonework.

We will arrive back in Cusco at about 6.30pm.

Day 10: Sacred Valley tour–Cusco-Pisac-Ollantaytambo (Shared group service )

We pick you up from your hotel in Cusco andITINERARY: We will pick you up from your hotel at 8.00am and drive to the Sacred Valley of the Incas where we visit the following places:

PISAQ: We visit the Inca remains perched above the town walking one and a half hours before descending in the bus and exploring the town’s famous market.

LUNCH: we take lunch at one of our favourite restaurants in the Sacred Valley( optional).

OLLANTAYTAMBO: We visit this traditional town known as “the living Inca city”.  People live today in the houses and narrow streets built by the Incas with many still taking their water from the water channels that run through the town. We will take a guided tour of the Inca fortress which dominates the town, keeping watch over the sacred valley and hear about one of the greatest love stories of Inca times which took place here.

CHINCHEROS: We stop to explore the colonial church and visit the Inca palace of Tupac Yupanqui. We have a last chance to buy handicrafts in the market with its beautiful views of the Vilcanota Mountains before returning to our bus for the 45 min drive back to Cusco arricing aprox. 7pm.

Day11: Maras – Moray – Salineras and typical dances.

This trip combines beautiful colonial towns with spectacular Inca sites

DURATION:  8:00 am  to 2:00 pm approx.

We will pick you up from your hotel at 8.00am and drive for 1 hour in our comfortable bus to MARAS: Located to the west of the Cusco this town has many beautiful examples of colonial architecture hidden in its quiet streets. We will also have spectacular views across to the Vilcanota range of mountains.MORAY:  We then drive another 15 minutes to this unique site. Natural depressions have been terraced by the Incas and used to make a kind of experimental greenhouse. The temperature gradient thus created was used to ascertain what type of crops could grow in different locations.SALINERAS: or “salt mines” The natural salt in the rocks is filtered out by the use of small salt pans and allowed to dry. Return to the city of Cusco. After lunch you have free time to rest and then around 6:30pm you will go to “Centro Qosqo de arte nativo” where you will see a show of typical dances (1 hour 30min duration approx.)

May 31st Day at leisure to rest before your adventure!.

After all tours you have a free day at leisure where you can do Shopping  and get ready for our adventure on the inca trail! Also you will have a pre departure briefing in the afternoon with your guide!

INCA TRAIL TO MACHUPICCHU 4 DAYS

Day12: Cusco- Huayllabamba

A two hour ride by private bus takes us to the town of Ollantaytambo, where we stop for 30 minutes to buy any last minute items. We then continue to Km 82, the start of the trail. We will hike 5 or 6 hours to the village of Huayllabamba where we camp for the night.

Campsite altitude: 3,000 m (9,840 ft)

Day13: Huayllabamba-Pacamayo

A steep climb takes us through cloud forest and up to Llulluchapampa where we will stop for a break. We continue to the Warmiwañusca pass (4 200 m) (13 770 ft.), the highest point of our trek some 5 hours from camp. After the pass we descend for two hours to Pacamayo where we camp.

Total distance: 12 km (7.5 miles)

Estimated walking time: 6-7 hours

Maximum altitude: 4,200 m (13,770 ft)

Campsite altitude: 3,500 m (11,480 ft)

Day14: Pacamayo-Wiñay Wayna

At 7:00a.m.we begin to climb once again to the second pass at (3,800m.s.n.m.)(12,470ft.) from where should have fantastic views of Pumasillo mountain. Half way up our climb we stop for a tour of Runcuracay archaeological complex. Descending from the pass we notice the vegetation becoming more tropical.  Our descent takes us to the Inca town of Sayacmarca set in a stunning location between two valleys. The trail then climbs gently passing though high jungle laced with orchids and paradise flowers. If we are lucky we may see some of the many colourful species of birds to be found here. Our trail takes us through the Inca tunnel before arriving at our third pass (3,600m.s.n.m.)(11,800ft.) on a clear day we have good views of Salkantay mountain. From this our last pass, we visit the site of Phuyupatamarca before beginning our long

descent down the famous Inca steps and onto our campsite at Wiñay Wayna. If we arrive in sufficient time we can visit the spectacular Inca terraces here before treating ourselves to a well earned cold beer.

Campsite altitude: 2,650 m (8,700 ft)

Day15: Wiñay Wayna-Machu Picchu- Aguas calientes town

Rising early we walk a final hour to arrive at the Sun Gate and our first view of Machu Picchu We will arrive well to allow us to explore this magnificent site and stay in Machupicchu more hours. After a guided tour of the site you will have free time to explore and anjoy thi wonderful place before we take the bus down to Aguas Calientes where we have lunch then ye book into our hostel for a well deserved shower. You will have time to visit the famous hot springs to soak aching muscles whilst sipping a cocktail before heading out for dinner.

Aguas Calientes town altitude: 2,000 m

Day16: Aguas Calientes – Ollantaytambo – Cusco.

After breakfast, you  morning train back to Ollantaytambo, on arrival back in Ollanta we will transfer you from the train station to the hotel In Cusco in our private transportation.

Day17: Bye bye Cusco!

Transfer from your selected hotel to the airport! Where we say Good Bye!
